Went here for an anniversary dinner and loved the vibes. Upscale restaurant but still welcoming. Loved their flatbread of the day. Sushi was fresh and my carrot hummus salad was a huge portion of delicious Nj vegetables.
Loved EVERYTHING about this place! Service excellent. Drinks were yummy. The food was fabulous!! First time eating a Poke Bowl, and it was so good. I will definitely come back.
Hostess and wait staff very helpful and welcoming. Food delicious and prices reasonable.
We were greeted immediately, checked in for our reservation by the hostess and because we were early went to the bar for a drink. The hostess found us to point out there was an open seat at the bar where we could sit.
Waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, food options and clear about any delays at the bar or sushi station. (Everything arrived sooner than he expected).
The sushi was delicious! The Chilean sea bass also delicious. My husband had the burger which was a combination of meats and was flavorful and filling.
Dessert was another temptation and since all desserts are made on site we could not resist. It was worth it. Coconut cream pie and peanut butter pie.
We had 3 drinks with our meal and all things considered we were expecting the bill to be more.
If there is any down side I’d say it was how busy the restaurant was and it was still hopping when we left. If you’re looking for an intimate meal I would not go here. It was full and tables are a-little close. We were part of our neighbors conversation(not by choice).
However, for the number of people it was not super noisy.
Will I go back? Yes. Did I enjoy everything we ordered? Yes Do I feel I received value for what I paid? Yes.
Don't get me wrong, the food at this place is really good. They have a huge menu and seem able to pull off sushi and traditional coastal cuisine really well.
My problem is, this place seems to be overhyped. It is virtually impossible to get a reservation here (we ate at 8PM on a Sunday). It just doesn't seem to be worth the effort. There could definitely be more upscale places to eat in this part of the Shore but I will not go out of my way to grab a reservation here again.
With that said, we did have a good meal. The menu is so diverse that it was a struggle to try everything that we wanted and we probably over-ordered. We started with the Parmesan Crusted Asparagus, which was probably my favorite thing we tried. It was kind of a unique spin on a staple and very tasty. It came with a great pesto aioli. We also got the Mozzarella en Croute, which was nothing special, but tasted good on some table bread.
Our second course was sushi. We got a Philadelphia roll and a "Karen" roll. Both were prepared at the sushi counter and really good. It was cool to have such good sushi at the Shore.
For the main course, we split the Cuban Pork Chop with a side of Truffle Mac n' Cheese. Both were also really good. The pork chop was seasoned really well and was bone-in. The Truffle Mac n Cheese was good but a whopping $11.50 for a small side portion.
All-in-all, this place has some good food and enough options that everyone will be happy. However, the high prices and insane difficulty I had getting a reservation means I will probably pass in the future. If you can grab a spot, it's probably worth a visit.
PRO TIP: There is a cool little seating area outside that has food trucks. I couldn't tell whether this was associated with the restaurant or not but it is definitely something to check out!
Title: A Disappointing Dining Experience
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆
My recent visit to tomatos was nothing short of a disappointment. From the moment I walked in, the experience was marred by a series of unfortunate events that left me frustrated and regretful of my decision to dine there.
First and foremost, the service was incredibly slow. Reservations.. whats the point they dont honor them. 8:30 resy.. they laugh and you wait an HOUR..
When the food finally arrived, it was a letdown in every aspect. The presentation was lackluster, and the dishes looked nothing like the appetizing pictures on their website. Not only was the appearance a disappointment, but the taste was also underwhelming. The dishes lacked flavor and seemed to be hastily prepared.
To make matters worse, after finishing my meal, I felt incredibly sick. It was evident that the food had not been prepared with proper hygiene standards, leading to an unpleasant aftermath that lasted for hours.
Additionally, the ambiance of the restaurant was far from pleasant. The atmosphere felt dull and lifeless, with no effort made to create a warm and inviting environment for diners.
In conclusion, my experience at tomatos was a complete disaster. Slow service, tasteless food, and the unfortunate aftermath of feeling sick make it impossible for me to recommend this restaurant to anyone. I hope my review serves as a wake-up call for the management to address these issues and improve the overall dining experience for their customers.
First time with this place. Great restaurant if you are craving of everything for dinner. If you like seafood, they have an amazing choices, meat lovers, vegan , sushi, etc. You may love their specials entrees too, so good. I recommend Keylime pie for dessert. Never regret stopping by in this restaurant. Also make a reservation if you come later than 6pm, they got busy. All in all very delicious food and great service. Thank you and stay safe.
The negative about this restaurant was that appetizer ordered from the sushi bar took almost 2 hours to be brought to the table. This caused all of our dinners to be held by the restaurant for 2 hours! When we asked to see the manager, she had Alex come out. Alex stated that she was “technically” the owner, not the manager! Seems better right? Wrong! The only thing she said was “I’m sorry.” She offered to do nothing at all. She just stood there and repeated - I’m sorry! Didn’t suggest anything to make things right! We even mentioned that it was our first time all the restaurant and still she couldn’t figure out what to do! Amazingly disappointing!
Suggest you think twice about going to this restaurant, because despite the excellent food, a manager/owner that doesn’t know how to get out of a paper bag, ruins the entire experience. Also, if you have any issue whatsoever - don’t count on anything other than an “I’m sorry!” We won’t be returning, nor recommending this restaurant to friends/family.
Parking is horrible during weekend/summer. Plan accordingly .
Bit surprised how "blah" Customer service was... Expected it to be pretty good considering the cost and location. 1st time there and had no idea where to go. Hostess is all the way to the back and no one to greet/ guide you. Waitress wasn't all that friendly, seem to be bothered when asked for recommendations - but the BUS GIRL, yea she WAS BOMB!!
Overall Food was pretty good. Ceviche, good. Sushi is a must, delicious! Cocktail drinks are a bit pricey- stick to beer.
Walk across to the pier to watch the sunset! Or dessert across the street.
